Sundance is looking for a talented and enthusiastic Art Director to
join our team in Salt Lake City, UT. Sundance is a leading
omni-channel specialty retailer with headquarters located in Salt

The Art Director is a proactive, multi-tasker with a "can-do"
attitude. This role is responsible for concepting and art directing
still-life photo shoots for both print and digital needs for the
Sundance brand and leading a team of prop stylists and
photographers on set. This includes shoes, apparel, accessories,
jewelry, and home furnishings. Layout and Typography design
experience is a plus. This position may require the ability to
create designs for all print efforts (specifically, all drops for
all seasonal catalogs, including but not limited to inserts,
bind-in cards, and any other collateral specific to Sundance
Catalog/Core, as well as retail collateral as needed). Must also
implement and manage design standards throughout the entire
production process while ensuring all materials are delivered on
time. Must be flexible, with the sense that changes are inevitable
and must be addressed head-on. Must also have the ability to follow
Sundance schedules, calendars and adhere to the yearly production
schedule. As a member of the Sundance Creative Design team, the Art
Director may also be asked to design or art direct other projects
as needed and as schedules may allow. This could include Jewelry
Catalogs, Best of Catalogs, other special mailers, as well as
digital, marketing, and retail assets.
Concept and present photography direction for photoshoots to the
CEO, VP of Creative, and your supervisor. Communicate the
photography direction to your photography team.
Art Direct all studio photography for core catalog as well as Men's
Almanac and Special Inserts. Other shoots may include Jewelry
Catalog, and special print mailers.
Art Direct studio photography for digital efforts, including
product photography, digital creative shoots for home page,
banners, emails, and any other assets needed across digital
Attend all meetings related to your photoshoots including but not
limited to all turnovers, design meetings, walk-throughs,
pre-dtp's, dtp's, and any other meeting required to keep up with
current and new concepts. Other meetings may be required depending
on new efforts as well as business-critical additions. May be
required to run certain meetings as needed.
Attend pre-press meetings in the Salt Lake office to take notes on
any match print changes before catalogs go to press. Follow through
on any changes to ensure that they have been input.
Direct the building of layouts from approved templates and
libraries, including versions. Maintain the integrity of all
designs when any and all changes are requested from the CEO, the VP
of Creative, and your supervisor.
Design and maintain all front and back cover messaging, as well as
headlines and any other inside messaging.
Work with Production Manager to ensure all typographic standards
are adhered to, review all work for accuracy and standards, and
ensure all deadline dates are met.
Collaborate with Photography Coordinator to ensure awareness of all
studio schedules relating to Core.
Coordinate with cross-functional departments to ensure all
pertinent information required to do the job efficiently is
received in a timely manner.
Bachelor's Degree in fine arts, graphic design, or similar.
Equivalent combination of education and experience will be
5+ years of related experience in high-end catalog art
On set art direction experience, with the ability to direct up to
two photography teams at a time.
A sophisticated taste level and knowledge of still life
photography. Must have an awareness of photographers and prop
stylists in the industry.
The ability to concept and create creative briefs and convey ideas
clearly to the photography team, which includes prop direction and
Knowledge of typography, including but not limited to: kerning,
tracking, spacing, as well as the ability to research new fonts for
Extensive knowledge of Creative Suite (InDesign and Acrobat).
Working knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator.
Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, delegate, and
shift gears when necessary
Planning and organizational skills to ensure projects are given the
