Summary of Job Duties * Provides reference and reader's advisory services to library customers in person, on the phone, or through electronic communications. * Explains use of library resources, equipment and services and provide information about library policies. * Provides input on the branch collection development plan and strategic goals. * Assists customers in the use of personal computer and electronic resources. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Library Science, or in Library and Information Science. Other accredited Master's degree will be accepted when combined with one (1) year of professional Librarian experience in a public library or school library/media center. Preference will be given to candidates with MLS/MLIS degrees. Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a required pre-employment background check mandatory background checks in accordance with current County Human Resources policy requirements. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required * Principles and practices of public librarianship * Collection development principles and practices * Reference/reader's advisory techniques and resources * Telephone etiquette * Operate personal computer, automated library system, and other standard library equipment * Work with computer software related to job-specific duties * Deal tactfully and courteously with the public and co-workers * Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing * Work independently and within a team environment * Work effectively with people from diverse social, economic and ethnic backgrounds * Organize data and track expenditures * Handle emergencies and appropriately resolve complaints, and conflicts Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk and sit to use computer workstation for extended periods, occasionally push/pull a loaded shelving cart weighing up to 150 pounds and occasionally lift up to 30 pounds. Pay Rate: $21.83 per hour, no benefits Work Hours: Varies, no set work schedule. The position is listed as temporary but this is a status and not a time frame. It is a permanent position. Work Locations: Must be available to work at four or more library locations. (Refer to map for specific library addresses.) Work Requirement: Substitutes are required to work a minimum of 20hrs a month with a maximum of 120 hours per month on average. This includes at least one Saturday a month. TEMPORARY POSITIONS: An "At Will", FLSA non-exempt employee who is not eligible for County benefits and who must work an average of 29 hours or less per week or an average of 129 hours or less per month. * Must work an average of 29 hours or less per week or an average of 129 hours or less per month. * Are not eligible for County benefits except as otherwise provided for by policy. * Are not considered merit employees. * Are "at will" employees who may be terminated for any reason, without notice, and without a pre-termination hearing. WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Position requires the ability to walk extensive distances, kneel, bend, and stand for long periods of time, climb stairs while transporting medical equipment, twisting and lifting heavy equipment, lift backboards and transport patients up or down stairs.
